I also have seen this if you muck around with the resolution options. If you leave it at the default "Desktop" setting, it stopped doing that in my troubleshooting.
Have you tried checking the box at 'system memory' instead of 'video memory'? What Dreams says is also true: You should only use the 'Desktop resolution'. The latest DDraw.dll will adjust the game to your screen size.
I've tried all of the above, as well as what is listed on the website. I updated my DirectX, laptop, and tried troubleshooting as well. Nothing has worked. When I rename, it makes it into a copy (ddraw.dll(2)).
Boys, when you rename the compatibility dll's you should delete the old one's first. In summary: - If the game doesn't start at all: you are most likely using XP/Vista or Win7 32bit. You can probably resovle this by deleting the default dll files, and renaming the xp/vista compatibiltiy DLL's which come with the client. - If the client starts, but the game doesnt run (throwing some error), you can most likely resolve this by checking the 'system memory' box in the launcher options.
- make sure to check the box labelled 'System Memory' at the client startup. - make sure no other software which uses your graphics card is running (just to be sure). - make sure firewall allows the updater to do the update (check for files with 0 kb size, if you find any, the updater was not allowed to download them properly); If the above still doesn't work: - try windowed mode by adding -w to target of moac.exe shortcut (make a shortcut to moac.exe) - try using ddraw_oldschool.dll by renaming it to ddraw.dll (delete the other one). - list system specs (windows version, 32/64 bit, graphics card model).
System Memory is checked, no other software is going, i have firewall turned off, tried the -w not didnt help, remaned the ddl file, nothing... any other ideas?

try one more thing, try quickly pressing F8 one time as soon as you launch the game (i.e. after clicking play button). This will remove the alpha-wall feature. tell me if this changes anything.
