U need a full directX library, or you can use the ddraw_oldschool.dll by renaming it to ddraw.dll (it should work stand-alone).

Base client has ddraw_oldschool.dll now (I uploaded it to the base client package). Make sure you allow moac.exe and the updater to run freely. Rename oldschool.dll to ddraw.dll (remove the other one). Note that the updater may still overwrite ddraw.ddl upon patching, so you will have to rename ddraw_oldschool.dll to ddraw.dll after each update.. You can also delete the updater. The game will warn you that the updater is missing on start-up, but you can still play after clicking ok. Let me know how it works out.

If the oldschool dll doeant work, its probably not a ddraw issue. Try the following: remove the ddraw.dlls and the updater alltogether and try running the game without them (old XP and Vista should have the proper ddraw built in). What about windowed mode? Does that work?

I read some stuff about this error. Assuming you tried downloading the client, and running it without updating it (and without the ddraw.dll), and you still got the same error, this could potentially be caused by the operating system. Multiple sources on google mention that this can be caused by installing a vista msvcrt.dll file on a windows xp system, or vice versa (i.e. wrong dll files for the operating system used). Most of the sources say to remove msvcrt.dll and try downloading another one which is specific to your system.
You said you were using a virtual machine? Does that mean that you installed virtual Vista (or XP) on a windows 10 machine? Have you tried running the game on a pure Vista/XP machine?

Didnt helped lol
i managed to get the client to work, but as soon as its going to show me the graphics it crashes, the client loads up to the ASTONIA logo and correct time
i had to change the libcurl.dll and removed ddraw.dll and ddrawl oldschool, and used another ddraw that came with directx for windows xp
also changed from vmware workstation to virtualbox (dont think has nothing to do)
im trying to fix the crash, but the report shows some version incompatibility

Vanilla ast3 should not be able to run in full screen on 64 bit systems if you use Windows' original ddraw.dll. Did you also try -w (windowed mode)?

Weird, the graphics loaded, so its not a ddraw problem. I have narrowed down the problem: It's most likely the update mechanism. I have uploaded the developer version which doesn't do any kind of update. You can download it here: www.astonia.eu/astonia3_client_DEV.rarBe sure to: - run it in software mode instead of hardware (astonia3 settings); - run it in 16 bits compatibility mode (rightclick the .exe, and select 16 bit color compatibility mode); and - try running it in windowed mode. Tell me how it works out! If this works, I will adjust the update mechanism in the public client to make it compatible with XP. Grtz
